Dental implants are a revolutionary way to replace missing teeth with artificial teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth. Implant dentistry is changing the way people live. With tooth implants, people are rediscovering the comfort and confidence to eat, laugh, speak and enjoy life. If you’ve been hiding your smile because of the embarrassment and frustration of missing teeth, it’s time for you to regain that confident smile. Contact our Raleigh, Durham or Chapel Hill dental offices for an initial implant evaluation.

Why dental implants?

When you lose teeth, whether it’s a recent situation or something you’ve lived with for years, chances are you have never become fully accustomed to losing such a vital part of yourself. Cosmetic dentistry and dental implants can open the door to renewed self-confidence and peace of mind. Tooth replacements improve quality of life through enhanced …

  1. Function – Implants are the closest prosthetic to natural teeth, offering a titanium floor for a solid foundation. Additionally, speech is easier and clearer with a full set of teeth. Dental implants can replace single teeth or full dentures.
  2. Aesthetics – Implants complete a smile with beautiful restorations that blend seamlessly with your natural teeth. You’ll experience the confidence that comes from a complete smile.
  3. Health – With reliable dental implants, you can eat all the foods required in a healthy, balanced diet. Implants can also help maintain good oral health by preserving facial structure that can otherwise be distorted when the bone around missing teeth shrinks.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post that serves as a substitute for a natural tooth root. The implant is inserted surgically into the jawbone and provides a stable base upon which an artificial tooth is anchored.

Do dental implants work?

Implants are among the most predictable and long-lasting methods for replacing missing teeth. Unlike natural teeth, implants cannot get decay and they do not have nerves. However, they can get periodontal disease if not maintained regularly. Proper oral hygiene and consistent professional cleanings can prevent this just like your natural teeth. In some cases, dental implants are a more conservative treatment option. A missing tooth can be replaced without the need to grind down adjacent, healthy, natural teeth as is done with bridges, which can put them at great risk for decay.

What type of anesthesia is used?

In the majority of one or two implants cases, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia. More extensive implant surgeries may require sedation.

Am I a candidate for implants?

It is important that the implant candidate commit to a regiment of dental care and regularly scheduled visits to the dentist. Although dental implants are an effective and aesthetically pleasing treatment for many patients, not everyone is an ideal candidate. A good candidate must be in relatively good health, as dental implants require the patient to undergo a surgical procedure. The ideal candidate would also have healthy gums and sufficient bone to support the implants.

If you are considering receiving dental implants or have additional questions about tooth replacements, please contact Sunrise Dental today. We will conduct an initial implant evaluation to determine your eligibility. We believe that patients who are thoroughly educated will make the best decisions for their dental needs.

Choosing your Raleigh, Durham or Chapel Hill implant doctor

Selecting the right implant doctor requires thorough research. With proper diagnosis, treatment and post-treatment care, dental implants can be part of your body for many, many years – very possibly the rest of your life. You will see your implant dentist for years of routine follow up, so taking the time and energy to find the right doctor is a small upfront investment for a big, long-term payoff.

The implant process involves a team of professionals lead by the implant dentist, including the dental assistant, implant coordinator, hygienist, dental lab and you. To be successful, each member of the team must play an active part in the implant process.
